 The Sahara, a vista of sky, sand and silence, a place of escape, of adventure and romance... Just imagine... In the distance caravans of camels glide across the sands, their heads floating regally, and alongside stride blue-robed men whose faces are almost hidden under their indigo cheches. The shimmer of heat from the desert floor sparks an image of an oasis with sheltering palm trees and cool water in the distance.
The camels and men continue on at their steady mile-eating pace and soon they disappear under the palms. Cook fires spring to life, the fragrances of mint tea and tagine spiced with cumin, coriander and saffron fill the air. As night falls, the lonely desert echoes with drumbeats and plaintive song. Now imagine yourself in this scenario. This could be your dream come true! Join us for an exciting 7 days of desert life. Learn the ways of the Berber tribes whose ancestors brought gold, salt and spices by camel caravan from Timbuktu to the thriving souks of Fes and Marrakesh only a generation ago. Visit the Berber village of Merzouga, the market town of Rissani, tour kasbahs and palmeraies. Have a picnic lunch in the famed Todra Gorge, photograph magnificient rock formations in Dades Gorge, climb the dunes of the Erg Chebbi, Morocco's great sand sea. With Adventures with Ali, you can participate in village life, perhaps attend wedding festivities, see women baking bread in the communal ovens, meet Gnaoua musicians and join them in their music. Because Merzouga is Ali's home, you will be welcomed as if you were family. It is Ali's wish that you experience as much as possible while you are the with Adventures with Ali. Day 1. Meet in Ouarzazate. Travel by Land Rover to the desert camp near Merzouga where you will meet your guide and camels. Picnic at Todra Gorge en route to desert. Day 2,3,4 trek with camel; camp in a different oasis each night. A day or so of trekking with your camel through the golden dunes of the Erg Chebbi will end your tour. Day 5. Tour market town or Rissani, visit kasbahs, souks, village. Auberge bivouac accomodations Day 6. Return drive to Ouarzazate with lunch in Dades Gorge. Farewell dinner in Ouarzazate. Hotel accomodations. Day 7. Fly home, morning transport to airport provided. Tour ends after breakfast.
