ADVENTURES WITH ALI
|
Valley des Almelns &Guelmim Camel Market 5 days
Ali will meet you at your hotel the evening prior to departure to discuss the itinerary. You should have Day 4 fall on a Saturday in order to attend the camel market in Guelmim.
Day 1. Depart Agadir for Tafraoute via Ait Baha. This area, particularly the Vallee des Ameln where Tafraoute is located, is one of the most beautiful in Morocco. You will pass ancient villages nesting on hilltops. The kasbahs here are worked of stone in contrast to the pise' construction of the desert lands. A walk through these kasbahs or villages will surely bring you face to face with the villagers and a possible invitation to their home.
This is the region of the Argan tree which bears a fruit similar to an olive. These are crushed for their oil which is prized in Moroccan cooking. You will see goats high in the trees busily eating the fruit.
You'll arrive in Tafroute around lunchtime. After checking into your hotel, you can take a short walk to explore the village or maybe you would like to drive to some of the villages in the valley in late afternoon for some photographs. O/N Tafraoute
Day 2. Ali will take you to a traditional house where the owner will give you a guided tour. Then you will walk through the village to see the unique Berber architecture and decorated houses. Possible as well is a drive to the gorges or the unusual rock formations.
O/N Tafraoute
Day 3. More spectacular scenery on the drive to Guelmim via Tiznit. Tiznit is noted for its silver jewelry and you may want to take a short break here for a visit to the silversmiths . O/N Guelmim
Day 4. Attend the camel market where camel traders from all over Morocco come to purchase and sell animals. A fabulous photographic opportunity.
O/N Guelmim
Day 5. Return to Agadir with a stop at Oued Massa National Park. This is a nature reserve of 32,000 acres. Half the world's population of Bald Ibis lives here as well as flamingoes, herons and animals such as wild boar.
